Removing Viruses with Antivirus Software

Okay, so you've gotten into safe mode, or your computer is at least responding to you.
You want to now attempt a virus removal. For this, I'd advise AVG9, a cheap Antivirus Program. There is a link to the right of this page where you will be able to download & install it to your computer.
Once installed, ensure you update the program to the latest version (Options found towards the left side). This is to allow the program to detect the latest viruses.
AVG9 should now be installed, there will be an option to 'Scan Whole Computer'. Once completed, restart your computer & you should be good to go!

Getting into Windows 'Safe Mode'

If you are having issues doing anything at all whilst your computer is turned on, we will need to start into 'Safe Mode'. If you're using a version of Windows, you'll be able to do this. (Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 7)

Safe mode will allow us to load a very light version of Windows, where the viruses/malware/spyware cannot affect us.
To start into safe mode to allow virus removal, do the following:
  • Turn Computer Off
  • Turn Computer On - As soon as you press the power button on, keep hitting the 'F8'key. Keep tapping it until you see a menu where you can 'Start Windows into Safe Mode with Networking'. Hit Enter/Yes through any prompts & start into Windows as you would normally do.
Though your computer may look fine, dont be fooled! They're still lurking, you cannot stay in safemode forever! In the next post I'll explain what to do from here. For now, you should at least have a semi-functional computer where you are able to get onto Internet Explorer & view this blog from there!
